Hat Attack, a brand bound to casual & classic style, has offered a trend-setting collection for over 35 years. Hat Attack was founded in 1981 by young entrepreneur husband-and-wife team, BJ and Bill Gedney. Influenced by their passion to create modern yet abiding pieces, BJ and Bill started Hat Attack in a studio apartment in Manhattan and together created a high demand for elevated quality craftsmanship at an affordable price. They started working with designers, established companies, and popular stores that were searching for a fresh look in hats. They quickly outgrew their small confines, moving several times before building their current 11,000-square foot factory in the Bronx. Their daughter, Cooper McManus, grew up at Hat Attack and is now at the helm of the creative team.
Hat Attack, synonymous with design and accessibility, offers two collections each year that set the tone for what is new in hats and accessories. Each season, Cooper and the design team draw on personal loves and inspiration gathered from their travels, passions and color trends.
The Spring season focuses on signature sustainable raffia and panama in addition to other sustainable straws and fabrics sourced from all over the world. Fall is defined by its use of USA made wool felts and luxurious velours. Knit yarns are developed each year as well as real and faux fur styles. The collection has grown to include beach cover ups and Turkish towels in summer and woven blanket scarves in winter. The collections adapt to incoming influences and trends.
The Made in USA hats are hand blocked, cut, sewn, and hand trimmed in the Bronx factory using carved wood blocks that have been collected over time and are part of Hat Attack’s history. Every hat and accessory that is shipped from our home headquarters in the Bronx is handled individually and each step of the process is done with thoughtfulness and care to maintain the integrity of the style.
